Marnin Studio

 Marnin Studio is a therapeutic, culturally grounded space where women come together to create, connect and heal.

Set within the gardens of Marninwarntikura Women’s Resource Centre, the Studio is a place of calm, creativity and belonging. It offers a soft entry point for women who may be experiencing family, domestic and sexual violence, providing a safe and non-judgemental environment to engage at their own pace.

At Marnin Studio, healing happens through doing. Women walk, talk and create together, building trust, strengthening relationships and reconnecting with culture, identity and community. This work sits alongside and connects into MWRC’s broader Strengthening Families and family violence support services, creating pathways into safety, legal support, therapeutic care and longer-term recovery.

The Studio combines a strength-based, community-led approach with therapeutic practice. Through art-based engagement, women are supported to:

• Rebuild confidence and sense of self

• Strengthen social and cultural connection

• Access wraparound supports in a safe and supported way

• Move along pathways of healing, safety and stability

Marnin Studio also creates opportunities for artistic and professional development. What began with textile printing and sewing has grown into a dynamic creative hub supporting design, textiles, jewellery and homewares. Women are supported to develop ideas into products, build skills and participate in meaningful economic opportunities.

Our fashion label, Design Within Country, was born from this space and reflects deep cultural knowledge, connection to Country and community-led design.

A unique strength of Marnin Studio is its ability to connect remote and urban creatives, building a national network grounded in reciprocity, shared learning and cultural exchange.

Marnin Studio is grassroots, aspirational, inclusive and adaptive.

It is a place where women can begin, or continue, their journey of healing and recovery while also creating pathways toward independence, creativity and positive futures.
