Generations Creating Together at Marnin Studio
The collaboration is led by Marnin Studio, part of Marninwarntikura Women’s Resource Centre’s Strengthening Families program, alongside MWW Night Space and with support from Fitzroy Valley District High School.
The workshops bring Marnin artists, young women and girls together around the Studio tables to draw, develop ideas and learn the process of turning their designs into lino prints.
But the workshops are about much more than producing artwork.
Creating across generations
At the heart of the collaboration is an opportunity for different generations of Fitzroy Valley women and girls to spend time together.
Marnin Studio’s artists bring knowledge, stories, culture and years of creative practice. The younger participants bring their own perspectives, ideas and enthusiasm.
Around the table, these things come together naturally.
There is time to draw and print, but also time to yarn - about culture, Country, family, ideas and the stories behind what people choose to create.
For MWRC, these intergenerational connections are an important part of what Marnin Studio offers.
The Studio is not only a place where art is produced. It is a culturally grounded space where women come together, build confidence and connection, share knowledge and create opportunities for the next generation.
Marnin Studio and Strengthening Families
Marnin Studio sits within MWRC’s broader Strengthening Families work.
That connection is important. Supporting women, children, young people and families does not happen through one program or one type of service alone.
It also happens by creating safe and welcoming spaces, strengthening relationships, supporting cultural connection, providing opportunities for young people and making it possible for generations to spend meaningful time together.
This ongoing collaboration with MWW Night Space is a great example of that approach in action.
Rather than programs working separately, we bring together the strengths already within our community - Marnin’s artists and Elders, youth programs, schools, families and young people themselves - to create something together.
Building towards Skutta ’26
The lino-printing workshops contribute to Skutta ’26, giving young participants an opportunity to develop and showcase work they create through the process.
The excitement continues to build as the workshops progress.
The young artists are developing fantastic ideas and designs, experimenting with colour, pattern and imagery while learning alongside Marnin’s experienced artists.
Most importantly, the process belongs to the women and girls around the table.
It is about creating something together, learning from one another and giving young people opportunities to see their own creativity, culture and stories valued.

And, of course, a huge acknowledgement to our Marnin Studio artists and Elders, who continue to generously share their skills, knowledge, stories and time with younger generations.
