Marnin Studio heads to Naarm for Melbourne Fashion Week

This will be Marnin Studio’s first time presenting at Melbourne Fashion Week, joining an incredible line-up of First Nations designers in a celebration of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander fashion, design, culture and creativity, styled by Lindyn Rowland.

In Woi Wurrung language, Ganbu Marra means “one mob”, a fitting theme for a runway bringing First Nations designers and creative voices together from across the country.

For Marnin Studio, the invitation is another exciting opportunity for the work of Fitzroy Valley artists to reach new audiences.

Based at Marninwarntikura Women’s Resource Centre in Fitzroy Crossing, Marnin Studio is part of MWRC’s Strengthening Families program. The Studio provides a culturally safe and creative space where local women come together to make, learn, share knowledge and develop their artistic practice.

The Studio’s textiles and designs are grounded in the stories, Country, culture and creativity of Fitzroy Valley women. From the Studio in Fitzroy Crossing to major art markets, exhibitions and fashion events around Australia, each opportunity creates another platform for those stories and designs to be seen and celebrated.

Following an exciting year for the Studio, including seeing Martuwarra Mana Yongu on the Country to Couture runway, Ganbu Marra represents another important moment for our artists and team.

We’re looking forward to taking a little piece of the Fitzroy Valley to Naarm and joining First Nations designers from across Australia for this special opening night.
