MWRC at the Overcoming Indigenous Family Violence Forum 2026

MWRC CEO Emily Carter AM delivered a keynote presentation and breakout session focused on collective cultural strength, holistic healing, and the importance of Aboriginal community-controlled leadership in addressing family violence and supporting Social and Emotional Wellbeing.

Emily spoke about the origins of MWRC, the leadership of Aboriginal women in Fitzroy Crossing, the long-term impacts of intergenerational trauma, and the need for governments to invest in housing, healing, prevention and culturally grounded community-led responses.

The presentation also highlighted initiatives including the alcohol restrictions campaign, work surrounding FASD awareness and prevention, and the “Us Without Abuse” campaign focused on accountability, healing and community-led change.

The forum has been an important opportunity to connect with peers and strengthen relationships with organisations, leaders and networks working across the country to end family violence and support safer futures for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families and communities.

We thank QIFVLS and the forum organisers for creating a space for truth-telling, shared learning and collective action.
