Celebrating 13 Years of Baya Gawiy: A Community Milestone

Since opening our doors in 2011, Baya Gawiy has been a place where young children from across the Fitzroy Valley are nurtured through love, language, play, and learning. Over the years, the centre has grown into a nationally recognised model for early childhood education, recently receiving an ‘Exceeding’ rating under the National Quality Framework.

On Friday 19 September, we’ll be gathering at the centre for a special celebration featuring:

  • Live music and storytelling

  • A delicious community feast

  • The launch of the Buga Yanu Junba songbook and album, created by local songwriters in Bunuba, Gooniyandi, Walmajarri and Kimberley Kriol

  • A tribute to the incredible work of our local authors, illustrators and educators

This event is the highlight of our Celebration Week (15–19 September) - a week-long program of workshops, roadshows and creative activities across the Valley that bring together children, families, cultural leaders and community partners.

“We’re so proud of the role Baya Gawiy plays in our Community - not just as a place of learning, but as a place of cultural continuity, healing and hope,” says Emily Carter AM, CEO of Marninwarntikura. “This celebration is for everyone who’s walked with us on that journey.”
