FNAAFV Visits Marninwarntikura to Strengthen Advocacy and Partnership
The visit provided an important opportunity to share the work being undertaken across Marninwarntikura’s three integrated program areas — Strengthening Families, Baya Gawiy and Marulu — and to discuss the opportunities and challenges facing women, children and families across the Fitzroy Valley.
Discussions focused on national and local priorities, including Closing the Gap, the National Access to Justice Partnership (NAJP), early intervention and prevention responses to family, domestic and sexual violence, and the significant impacts that recent regional court closures continue to have on individuals, families and communities throughout the Kimberley.
Melissa also spent time with the MWRC Board during recent meetings in Broome, providing an opportunity to strengthen relationships and discuss the important role of Family Violence Prevention Legal Services nationally and the ongoing advocacy needed to support Aboriginal community-controlled responses.
The visit was further enriched by opportunities to connect with representatives from Wiyi Yani U Thangani and Commonland, creating space to share information, discuss common priorities and explore future opportunities for collaboration.
Marninwarntikura greatly values the advocacy, leadership and partnership provided by FNAAFV on behalf of Family Violence Prevention Legal Services across Australia. National advocacy and strong relationships remain critical to ensuring the voices of Aboriginal women, children and families continue to be heard.
We thank Melissa Clarke and the FNAAFV team for taking the time to visit our communities, meet with our staff and Board, and continue to advocate for stronger, community-led responses to family violence and access to justice.
Strong partnerships help strengthen local voices, inform national advocacy and support safer futures for Aboriginal women, children and families.
