Baya Gawiy Achieves Exceeding National Quality Standard

We are delighted to announce that Baya Gawiy Early Childhood Learning Unit has been rated Exceeding the National Quality Standard in its most recent assessment and rating process, conducted under the National Quality Framework for early childhood education and care.

This remarkable achievement is a testament to the dedication, cultural leadership, and reflective practice of our team, who create a safe and inspiring place for children to grow, learn, and connect to culture.

The draft assessment report highlighted several areas of strength, including:

  • Educational Program & Practice: Our curriculum draws on Indigenous Ways of Knowing, Being and Doing and aligns with the Marninwarntikura Developmental Trauma Responsive Framework. The report commended how our educators embed the local language, stories, and seasonal knowledge into children’s daily experiences.

  • Children’s Health & Safety: Initiatives like the garden-to-plate project, aerial yoga, and integrated allied health partnerships were noted as innovative and culturally grounded approaches to supporting wellbeing.

  • Staffing and Leadership: Our two-way learning model, where local educators and seconded staff work collaboratively to exchange knowledge and skills, was recognised as an exemplary way to build both capacity and cultural safety.

  • Governance & Community Engagement: The report described our deep partnerships with families and community members — from embedding feedback into our philosophy, to supporting families through culturally appropriate programs — as central to our success.

We are immensely proud of this recognition. It affirms our belief that children deserve education and care that not only meets high national standards, but also reflects their cultural identity, language, and community priorities.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to Amy Menzies, Sue Loughlin, and the entire Baya Gawiy team, whose tireless work and creativity make this excellence possible. You embody our vision of raising children who are strong in both worlds.

We also thank our families and wider community for trusting us with your little ones and for continuing to share your knowledge, stories, and aspirations with us.

Together, we will continue striving for the best outcomes for our children and families — always walking together on this journey of learning and healing.
